Japanese kanji chart for 1st grade of elementary school students in Japan.

I have posted variety kinds of kanjis, and you can see many kanjis on the internet. But it might be tricky to you. So I am introducing you the chart below, which indicates all kanjis 1st grade of Japanese elementary school students. 1st grade of students study 80 kanji in a year through homework, kakitori that I posted about on the previous article, [Tool] The way to practice Japanese Kanji in school in Japan.

kanji chart for 1st grade of elementary school students in Japan

The number of kanji we learn

The number of kanjis which we study in a year increases every time the grade goes up. In total we study over 2,000 kanjis in a compulsory education. Honestly speaking, I can’t believe that our brain remembers more than 2,000 kanjis, but surely we wrote down kanjis in a kakitori notebook every single day. One difficulty is that, we sometimes come across a kanji symbol that we have already learnt but it has other meaning or pronunciation. We didn’t study all the meaning and pronunciation at a time, and it made us confused.

1st grade Kanji symbols which are already posted on my blog

I am thinking to introduce a kanji from this chart for a while because these kanjis are the easiest ones of all kanjis. I don’t know I will keep it until finishing though. Some of them are already posted on my blog.

How many kanjis on the cart above do you know? The kanji chart should be read top-left to bottom-right, which are ordered by pronunciation, so-called あいうえお順. If you memorize 10 kanjis in a week, you can finish all in 2 months. It would be a good specific goal to study Japanese. Also do please care the pronunciation because a kanji has some pronunciation.

Be careful to okurigana when you study kanjis

The alphabets in brackets are called 送り仮名(おくりがな:okurigana). This is tricky too. We sometimes forget it and look it up on dictionary or check it by typing. Typing is very easy but it is not suitable to memorize kanjis. So in this computer-based working style, we frequently forget kanji, okurigana, and so on. Don’t get nervous to keep kanjis in your brain too much because we, Japanese, also forget. Repeatedly speaking, the only way to memorize kanjis is just to write down again and again. I think this chart would be a textbook for you to study kanji first. Hope it helps.

[Tool] The way to practice Japanese Kanji in school in Japan.

Long time no see everybody. My last update: [Fresh Japanese] I watch it was posted on this April. It was a half year ago. The reason why I started this blog is to tell people who are interested in Japanese language real Japanese. I think there are many websites enabling you to study Japanese in many ways like, a typing game, a flash card, a quiz, and so forth. Of course those methods would be useful to you, especially keep your motivation high, but those are not the way we, Japanese people, learn hiragana, katakana, and kanji. Also I’m not sure whether the contents are really true or not because those are provided by foreign people in most cases.

I was trying to blog simply and deeply about Japanese, but the more I try that way, the more the contents get too simple to do better in terms of SEO, and my blog hasn't got many views, and then I lost my motivation to keep updating, honestly speaking. However, I found that my video uploaded on YouTube channel, handwriting of Japanese, got almost 1,000 views, which was not big actually, and some people left comments on it. It is motivating me a lot. Responses from foreign people studying Japanese make me energetic. So, I've decided to restart this blog, I swear here.

Tool:Japanese kanji notebook for exercise

Anyway, today I am introducing the way we learn Japanese writing in elementary schools. The picture below is an example of Japanese practice drill. This is very popular educational materials used for ages. We write along with the guide and say aloud to memorize. In our Japanese classes, so-called "Kokugo (国語:こくご)", every student have to take the class, write, and read aloud. Do you have such drills in your Japanese lessons? Also we frequently have a homework,"Kakitori (書き取り:かきとり)", a kind of kanji notebook, which lets us write kanji repeatedly to memorize kanji symbols and each pronunciation. In my case, I did Kakitori every day for exercise. You can see a Kakitori notebook below.

We, Japanese, spend a lot of time to remember kanjis. We don’t have something special to learn it. Let’s keep studying with me. I definitely will support you. I am going to post some kanjis on an article, with each pronunciation in romaji (alphabet) and hiragana. Also I will show you some words with each kanji and example sentences with the words. Only kanji doesn’t work. Only words don’t work. Kanji and words in sentences work well. Please let me know if you have any questions.

[REAL Japanese] I watch it.

Hi, finally we have got into Golden Week. YEAH! Golden Week is a week off for almost all of Japanese at the first week on May. So I slept for 8 hours, and went to the gym, and watched DVD today.

Today's tweet in Japanese, picked up

Today's kanji picked up, meaning "to watch"

Kanji meaning to watch in Japanese

The meaning

  • watch

The pronunciation

  • みる miru

The usage

I think you are confused with "観" and "見". "見" is translated to see, and "観" is translated to watch. "観" is a kind of to enjoy artistic things. "見" is to just see physically.

Today's other Japanese words

  • 今日(きょう)kyou :today
  • 好き(すき)suki:like
  • 考える(かんがえる)kangaeru:thought-provoking

Today's Japanese kanji meaning "to settle down"

Japanese kanji meaning

The meaning

  • paragraph
  • a part of something

The pronunciation

ひとだんらく hitodanraku

The usage

"一段落する" here means that I finished a part of work, but still I have things to do. However, this is one of the meanings it has. There are other meanings which "一段落する" has. For example,

Can you grasp what "一段落する" means? I think it is close to " to settle", isn't it?

Today's other Japanese words

  • とりあえず(toriaezu):for now

[Special] Translated lyrics - Kasabuta of ONE OK ROCK

#This is translated by SJY's poor Japanese. Please do not take this English as the exact same as what Taka wants to say.

ONE OK ROCK website

はじめからそのつもりでしょ?
(You are up to it from the beginning?)

知ってて近づくのは得意でしょ?
(You are good at coming closer even though you understand?)

ソレ以外求めないで
(Don't ask for anything but that)

分かっているはずなのになぜ?
(You know it, but why?)

重なって、それ以上を欲しがったりして
(Together on the bed, ask for more.)

古いカサブタのせいにして
(Attribute it to the old scab.)

痒い痛いを繰り返してもなお
(Repeat feeling itchy and a pain.)

傷の舐め愛の関係?
(Is it a relation to lick wounds each other?)

It's not enough.

何を手に入れたいワケじゃない
(It doesn't mean I want to get something.)

むしろ何が欲しいかなんてもう分かってない
(I Even don't know what I want.)

冷えきって冷え切ったそんな僕に
(I've got colder and colder.)

よく効く薬が欲しいだけ
(All I need is an effective medicine.)

重なって、余計虚しくなったりして
(Together on the bed, feel more lonely.)

それをまた誰かのせいにして
(Attribute it again to someone else.)

行き着くとこまで行き着いたって
(Even if I'm gone,)

なんにも残るもんなんてない
(There would be nothing left.)

すくって落ちてく水みたいな愛情に
(Love like water which I fail to scoop.)

乾ききった何かを潤すことなんてできない
(Something dry won't be moistened.)

掌に残った、わずかなその温もりさえも
(Even the bare warmth on my palm,)

徐々に干上がってまた繰り返してくんだろ
(it's gonna get dried and repeat again.)

剥がしてまた赤く染まってく
(It's turning red again after tearing it off.)

それでも気付かないふりしてる
(Still I pretend that I don't notice.)

過去の傷が物語ってる
(My past wounds tells you the story.)

でもね
(However,)

重なって、それ以上を欲しがったりして
(Together on the bed, ask for more.)

古いカサブタのせいにして
(Attribute it to the old scab.)

痒い痛いを繰り返してもなお
(Repeat feeling itchy and a pain.)

傷の舐め愛の関係?
(Is it a relation to lick wounds each other?)

重なって、余計虚しくなったりして
(Together on the bed, feel more lonely.)

それをまた誰かのせいにして
(Attribute it again to someone else.)

行き着くとこまで行き着いたって
(Even if I'm gone,)

なんにも残るもんなんてない
(There would be nothing left.)

It's not enough.

[No.0046 Kanji] Undress *Polite Expression*

Japanese kanji for undressing

Hi guys.

I'm introducing the kanji about today.
(今日は上記の漢字を紹介します。)
(kyouha joukino kanjiwo shoukaisimasu)

Can you guess the meaning?
(当てられますか?)
(ateraremasuka?)

Let's go to some examples.
(例文に行きましょう)
(reibun ni ikimashou)

Examples:

上着を脱いで家にあがる-I enter a house after undressing a outer wear.
(うわぎをぬいでいえにあがる)
(uwagiwo nuide ieni agaru)

脱衣所はどこですか?-Can you tell me where a restroom is?
(だついじょはどこですか?)
(datsuijoha dokodesuka?)

#Please note that there are 2 pronunciation, nugu and datsu.

Etymology:
脱 consists of 2 parts, and the left part, a kanji which 月 is attached to means a body-related thing or action.
(「脱」は2つの部分からなっていて、左部分にある「月」がついている漢字は身体や動作に関係した漢字になります。)
(「脱」ha futatsuno bubun kara natteite, hidaribubun niaru 「月」ga tsuiteirukanjiha karadaya dousani kankeishita kanjini narimasu)

So when you see other kanji with 月, you can suggest that the kanji is related to body or action.
(月のついた漢字を見たら、その漢字は身体や動作に関連したものだと推測してください。)
(「月」notsuita kanjiwo mitara, sonokanjiha karadaya dousani kanrenshita monodato suisokushite kudasai)

[No.0044 Kanji] Light *Casual Expression*

japanese kanji for light
Update from Japan!
(日本からの更新だよ!)
(Nihon karano kouhindayo)

I have come back since 5 am this morning.
(今朝5時に帰ってきたー)
(kesa gojini kaettekita-)

It seems that I gained 2 kilograms of weight during this period.
(この期間に2キロ体重増えたみたい)
(konokikanni nikiro taijyuu huetamitai)

I know the reason why. It's because I had eaten too much there LOL
(原因はわかってて、向こうで食べ過ぎた笑)
(geninhawakattete, mukoudetabesugita warai)

Like this.
(こんなのとか)
(konnanotoka)

Like this
(こんなのとか)
(konnanotoka)

Anyway, let's move on today's topic.
(さて、今日の本題に移ろう)
(sate, kyounohondaini utsurou)

This is not basic thing, so I don't think you need to learn this small pieces.
(これは基本的なことではなく、ここまで細かいことは覚える必要はないと思う)
(koreha kihontekinakotodehanaku, kokomadekomakaikotoha oboeruhitsuyouha naitoomou)

However this story will definitely tell you what Japanese language is.
(だけど、この話はきっとみなさんに日本語とはどんなものかということを伝えてくれると思う)
(dakedo, konohanashiha kitto minasannni nihongotoha donnamonoka toiukotowo oshietekureruto omou)

First of all, light has two meaning is Japanese, "明かり(あかり)" and "光(ひかり)"
(まず最初に、ライトは日本語で2つの意味があって、明かりと光にわけられる)
(mazusaishoni raitoha nihongode futatsunoimigaatte, akari to hikari ni wakerareru)

光 means sun light or light of fluorescent bulb.
(光は太陽光や蛍光灯のライトのことを言っていて、)
(光ha taiyoukouya keikoutouno raitonokotowo itteite)

明かり means reddish light including light of fire.
(明かりは火によるライトを含む赤みがかったライトを指してる)
(akariha hiniyoruraitowofukumu akamigakattaraitowo sashiteru)

So in my opinion, it might be that 光 is day-time light, 明かり is night-time light in old days.
(ぼくの考えでは、光は日中のライト、明かりは夜のライトだったんじゃないかと)
(bokunokangaedeha, hikariha nicchunraito, akariha yorunoraito dattanjyanaikato)

Then, I can talk about 灯.
(で、灯の話だけど。)
(de, 灯nohanashidakedo)

灯 is composed of 2 parts, 火 and 丁.
(灯は2つにわけられるよね)
(灯ha futasuni wakerareruyone, 火 to 丁)

火(ひ) means fire, and 丁 expresses that it is attached on the wall.
(火はfireの意味で、丁は壁にくっついていることを示している)
(火ha fire no imide, 丁ha kabeni kuttsuiteirukotowo shimeshiteiru)

灯 was originally light of fire on the wall, like a candle.
(灯は元々壁にかかった灯の明かりのことを示していたんだ。ロウソクのように。
(灯ha motomoto kabenikaktta hinoakarinokotowo shimeshiteitannda, rousokunoyouni)

And it is pronounced, ひ, あかり, or ともしび.
(発音はひ、あかり、またはともしび)
(hatsuonha, hi, akari, mataha tomoshibi)

Personally I like 灯 by the look and the color of light itself.
(個人的には灯という漢字が、見た目的にもその色的にも好きなんだ)
(kojintekiniha 灯toiukanjiga mitametekinimo sonoirotekinimo sukinanda)

Especially ともしび has a nuance describing it is a small and moderate light of fire. I can imagine the light by reading it.
(特に「ともしび」という読み方は、ほんのり小さいともった火の明かりを表していて、読むだけですぐその様子をイメージできる)
(tokuni tomoshibi toiuyomikataha, honnorichisaitomottahinoakariwo arawashiteite, yomudakede sugusonoyousuwo ime-jidekiru)

I really love Japanese language because of this sensitivity.
(この繊細さがあるから、日本語が大好きなんだよなー)
(konosensaisagaarukara, nihongoga daisukinandayona-)

I would be really happy if this post assists you to tell the sensitivity .
(みんなにもこういう繊細さをわかってもらえたら本当に嬉しい!)
(minnanimo kouiu sensaisawo wakattemoretara hontouni ureshii!)
